It Isn’t So Simple Picking The Right Bike
Just before paying for the pricy Specialized Roubaix or maybe Raleigh Chopper read the following. There are a lot of different criteria to consider when you are buying a cycling bicycle. Choosing their next bicycle is difficult, even for professional riders. Considering the various factors makes purchasing a bike tough. Imagine the future: how safe, comfy and stylish do you need the bike to be. How far will you ride and where will you be riding? Choosing between all of the options available can be overwhelming, especially since new developments in cycling happen all the time. Take the easy road, and use the tests we suggest to choose your new ride.
It goes without saying that choosing the correctly sized bike is of utmost importance. The measurement of your inseam is needed for this. Simply measure through your inner leg from your groin to the bottom of your foot to find out your inseam. Ideally you should be able to place both feet on the ground while on your bike. This means that you will be able to stop your bicycle with your feet if the brakes do not work-without having to tilt the bicycle and risk doing harm to it and to yourself.
For road bikes take away 9 inches from the total of your inseam. The size of the tires a road bike uses are the reason for this. Designed for cycling around the city road bike tires are thin. For a mountain bike you will need to take 12″ away from your total inseam. This is because the tires of a mountain bike are different than those on a road bike. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can use mountain bikes for city cycling, but the opposite is not true and they are nowhere near as good on city streets as road bikes.
Another thing to keep in mind is purchasing safety gear. Bicycle helmets are something completely different than they once were. They are now designed to offer better protection while looking a bit better, as well. You should never go for a ride without putting on your helmet first. Sometimes that fraction of padding really can save your life!
It wouldn’t hurt to also grab some elbow and knee guards, as well as ankle and wrist guards, just in case you decide to take your bike off the road. Another good idea is to buy some pants clips if you are going to be riding your bike as your primary form of transportation. These clips are designed to keep your pants from getting caught up in the gears and the chain.
When purchasing a bicycle, you have tons to consider. You have innumerable decisions to make as you choose how safe a bike to buy, as well as one that is pleasing to the eye. Feeling a little defeated at the outset of choosing your new bike is normal. The good news is that, with a little research, you can make a very informed decision about which bicycle is best for you.
